KATHMANDU: Rescue teams have recovered six bodies from a tunnel at the Upper Trishuli-1 hydropower project in Rasuwa while searching for people who went missing during the devastating Bhotekoshi floods on August 26.
The bodies were found trapped inside steel reinforcement mesh installed for concreting work in Audit 3 of the project’s tunnel, according to the Nepali Army.
Six Bodies Found Inside Tunnel
A joint rescue team involving Nepali Army personnel and representatives of the hydropower project discovered the bodies during the ongoing search operation.
The victims had become trapped inside the tunnel, where rescue teams had been working through difficult conditions following the flood.
Rescuers used gas cutters and rotary rescue equipment to cut through the steel reinforcement mesh and retrieve the bodies.
Search Continues For More Victims
The rescue operation has not ended.
According to the Nepali Army, rescuers also spotted what appeared to be additional bodies buried beneath mud inside the tunnel.
The search is continuing as teams work to clear the affected section and determine whether more people remain trapped.
Floods Left Thousands Missing
The August 26 Bhotekoshi floods caused widespread destruction across Rasuwa and neighbouring districts, sweeping away homes, infrastructure and people.

Latest Government Figures
According to the latest government figures cited in the report, 1,410 bodies had been recovered as of Friday, while 6,145 people remained unaccounted for.
The recovery of the six bodies from Upper Trishuli-1 adds to the continuing effort to identify and locate victims of the disaster.
Authorities and rescue teams are continuing operations in areas where people are still believed to be missing.
