Nationwide Hotel And Restaurant Inspection Drive
The Ministry of Home Affairs has ordered District Administration Offices across Nepal to conduct regular and surprise inspections of hotels and restaurants after complaints about poor food quality and hygiene. The ministry has also directed officials to take strict action against unsafe food practices and set up easy complaint systems for the public.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed all District Administration Offices across Nepal to carry out regular, intensive, and surprise inspections of hotels and restaurants from Monday, June 29, following growing public complaints about poor food quality, weak hygiene, and unsafe food services. The directive, issued under the instruction of Home Minister Sudan Gurung, aims to protect public health, consumer rights, and food safety standards.
Strict Action
The ministry has ordered authorities to take legal action against any hotel, restaurant, business, or individual found serving unsafe food or violating food safety rules. Officials have been told not to ignore activities that could directly harm public health.
Complaint System
Each District Administration Office must create a reliable complaint mechanism, such as a hotline or rapid response desk, so citizens can easily report food quality and hygiene problems in their area.
CDO Responsibility
The ministry has warned that the performance of district offices will be monitored closely. Chief District Officers have been directed to work actively and avoid negligence or delay in handling public complaints.
Local-Level Solution
The ministry said food safety complaints should be solved at the district level whenever possible. This is meant to make the system faster and prevent citizens from having to contact the central ministry for local issues.
