The Rastriya Swatantra Party has started its first general convention in Bharatpur, Chitwan, with final preparations completed for the gathering of thousands of delegates, party leaders, and invited guests.

The opening ceremony is being held at the Guest House ground, where a large high-tech dome has been prepared for the event. Bharatpur has also been decorated to welcome around 3,500 to 3,918 delegates, including representatives from Nepal and abroad.

Party chairman Rabi Lamichhane and senior leaders have already reached Chitwan. The convention is scheduled to be jointly inaugurated by Prime Minister Balendra Shah and Chairman Lamichhane, with several national and international political representatives expected to attend.

The party has reported around 500,000 members, with conventions already completed in 610 municipalities and representatives selected from 64 districts across six provinces. The event will focus on statute amendments, policy proposals, current political issues, and the party’s future organizational direction.

Ahead of the convention, RSP proposed expanding its central body from 121 to 151 members. The revised structure includes provisions to increase women’s participation in leadership positions such as vice-president, co-spokesperson, and co-treasurer.

Under the proposed arrangement, 51 central members will be nominated by the party president, while 99 members will be selected through open competition in accordance with inclusion rules.

The convention will also use an electronic voting system, where delegates will select candidates by touching their names and photos on the voting device. Voting will be held for the party chairman and 99 central committee members.

Nominations are scheduled to begin tomorrow afternoon, with voting expected to finish the same evening. Party office-bearers will be selected the day after the central committee election process is completed.

For traffic and crowd management, the District Traffic Police will monitor the area using drones. Designated parking areas, shuttle services, and restricted vehicle movement on key roads have also been arranged to manage the flow of delegates and visitors.

A previous dispute over the closed session venue has been resolved, with the Chitwan Association of Industries exhibition hall finalized for the session.
